The Research, Technology Transfer and Training Office Simple Departmental Unit (SSD) is part of the Scientific Directorate and the Program for Innovation and Research. It brings together, under a single coordinating body, the Institute's strategic research, technology transfer, and training activities, serving as a key reference point for researchers, management, funding bodies, and ministerial organizations.

URTTF coordinates project development, the management of competitive funding, research contracts, support for financial reporting, language editing, and the monitoring of IRST's scientific output. It also handles project-based accounting, access to regional, national, and European grants, and the evaluation of scientific performance according to Ministry of Health criteria.

Since 2017, it has extended its remit to include monitoring of clinical trial grants, optimizing revenue for both IRST and AUSL Romagna. It also manages all agreements and contracts with sponsors, academic centers, and industrial partners, in a context of continuous growth in volume and administrative complexity.

URTTF coordinates the activities of the IRST Grant Office, the operational hub for managing competitive funding at the regional, national, and European level. The office provides comprehensive support to researchers throughout the entire project life cycle: from call analysis and proposal preparation to contract management, financial reporting, and progress monitoring.

URTTF drives the Institute's scientific results valorization activities: it monitors the market potential of inventions, supports researchers through the patenting process, seeks partners for commercial exploitation, and promotes the creation of high-tech spin-offs. The office supports the full innovation cycle, from prototyping to industrial transfer.

Specialist and Academic Training

Training

On the training side, URTTF ensures the delivery of CME (Continuing Medical Education) courses and structured pathways for specialty trainees, interns, and PhD students, managing agreements with universities, master's programs, and specialty schools. It coordinates internal training, ensures institutional accreditation of the training function, and supports the integration of new professionals into highly qualified curricular pathways.

Areas of activity

The office oversees:

• management of the research workflow for the Ministry of Health (Current and Finalized Research);
• project management and monitoring of funded projects;
• bibliometric monitoring of IRST's scientific output (normalized impact factors, IRST points, etc.);
• support for language and scientific editing of publications and international projects;
• institutional representation in relations with the Ministry, IRCCS networks, technology clusters, and public and private bodies.

An internal car park reserved for people with disabilities is available, along with ample external parking.

Thanks to the absence of architectural barriers and the presence of ramps, the IRST site in Meldola offers the best possible accessibility for people with mobility impairments.

Wheelchairs are also available for use at the entrance.

The Public Relations Office and the volunteer desk of the Virgilio project provide assistance and guidance.
