Activities
Dr Pirini is a Senior Researcher of the Gerobiomics &Exposomics Unit at IRCCS Istituto Romagnolo per lo Studio dei Tumori “Dino Amadori” (IRST) since 2016. During her career, Dr. Pirini has been involved in several projects on the identification and validation of novel diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarkers. Beside an experience in the study of new genetic biomarkers for the diagnosis of colon and breast hereditary cancer, she focused on the identification of epigenetic diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in gastric and colon cancer, and on the assessment of the risk derived to the exposure to environmental factor such as cigarette smoke and perfluorinate compounds. Her actual research is focused on the identification of the functional role of the tumor tissue microbiota in breast cancer using multi-omic approaches, that comprise metagenomics, meta-transcriptomics and meta-proteomics. Dr Prini’s work aim to clarify the role of microbiota in onset and progression of cancer and its interplay with the tumor microenvironment in order to develop new personalize treatment approach.
