Dr. Cortesi gained her PhD in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of Pavia studying the role of sigma receptors and the mechanism of action of new pan-sigma receptors ligands in solid tumors, with particular attention at pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Her work is focused on preclinical and translational research regarding the cellular and molecular biology of tumor cells and tumor microenvironment. She has been involved in several projects on cancer pharmacology, radiobiology, cancer-stroma cells interactions and cancer stem cells’ isolation and characterization. Her research is focused on the interplay between tumor and microenvironment with the goal of understanding how such cross-talk could affect tumor progression and response to therapy.
